During my university days, I met my husband. He never mentioned his father until one day, after we’d been dating a while, he emotionally shared that his dad had been bedridden since he was 18 due to a stroke. I was shocked and felt so much pity for him. Even today, he refers to the insurance payout his family received as “blood money”.
His father was bedridden for 17 long years before passing away. Without that payout, they would’ve been overwhelmed with medical bills, debt, and mortgage payments. It couldn’t replace his father or ease their emotional pain, but it did lessen the financial burden during an incredibly difficult time.
Ultimately, life is full of unexpected twists and turns. Just as I wouldn’t build a platform without accounting for the strongest storms, I wouldn’t want couples to navigate life’s uncertainties without a safety net.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry. You’d rather be 20 years early than 1 day late when it comes to protecting your future.
